UK Gate Suppliers: How to Compare Quotes and Avoid Bad Buys

There are three kinds of gate supplier in the UK: manufacturers who make and fit, installers who buy in and fit, and online sellers who ship a stock size to your driveway. All three have a place — but they are not comparable on price alone.
Manufacturer, installer or online seller
- Manufacturer and installer — made to your measurements, one point of responsibility for the gate and the fit.
- Installer buying in — flexible, but lead times and warranty claims depend on a third party.
- Online stock sizes — cheapest headline price; you carry the risk on sizing, groundworks and automation.
Read the quote, not the total
- Is the gate made to your exact opening, or the nearest stock width?
- Are posts, fixings and gate stops included?
- Does the price include ducting, cable runs and a power supply at the posts?
- Are photocells, force limitation and a manual release included, or listed as optional?
- What is the powder coat specification and the finish warranty?
- Who returns for adjustments in year one, and at what cost?
Signals of a supplier worth using
A written survey with measurements. A quote that names the collection, RAL colour, motor model and safety devices. Photographs of recent installs at real addresses rather than stock renders. And a straight answer about lead time before a deposit is requested.
Frequently asked questions
- Do you manufacture your own gates?
- Yes. We fabricate and powder coat in our own workshop and install with our own fitting teams, so one company is responsible for the whole job.
- Should I choose the cheapest quote?
- Only after you have matched the scope. Cheaper quotes usually exclude groundworks, power, safety devices or made-to-measure sizing.
- What warranty do you offer?
- We guarantee our workmanship and the powder coated aluminium, with the automation covered by the motor manufacturer's warranty. The terms are stated in writing on the quote.
